Newly elected president

Agnes Luciow, newly elected president

At the twenty-eighth convention of the Manitoba & Saskatchewan District the voting body elected Agnes Luciow of St. James LWMLC, Winnipeg, as its president. Also elected were vice-presidents for Christian mission, Helga Judt, Immanuel LWMLC, Winnipeg and member development, Diane Dennis, St. Paul, Cupar, Sask. Re-elected were vice-presidents for Christian growth, Patti Kreutzweiser, Emmanuel LWMLC, Moose Jaw, Sask. and communication, Sheila Flahr, St. Peter’s LWMLC, Oxbow, Sask. Pam Burns, Mount Olive LWMLC, Regina was re-elected secretary and Colleen Kardash, Emmanuel LWMLC, Moose Jaw was re-elected treasurer.

Forty-five women and women rose bright and early on Saturday, June 12, 2010, and enjoyed a sunny walk for missions, raising a total of $6,574. The funds are for the district’s WATER project (Water Available to Every Race) supporting two Canadian Lutheran World Relief water projects, providing for water quality testing kits and the creation of new wells.

Several bylaw changes were approved. One enables zones to choose a different means of interacting with the women in LCC congregations. Also approved was a change that more evenly distributes the workload among the vice-presidents.

Vice-President Christian Mission

Sya Van Maanen, Vice-President Christian Mission presents proposed projects to receive mission grants.

The voting body approved a goal of $48,000 for mission grants to be provided to various mission projects over the next triennium. Street ministry in Regina, Sask., $10,000; funds to fly missionaries to the North to teach VBS through LAMP, $5,000; repairs for Camp Lutherland, Saskatchewan, $10,000; purchase new and replacement zinc plates for Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc., $10,000; assisting Lutherans for Life Canada to provide Word of Hope counselling services in Canada, $2,500; funding purchase of Bibles for outreach ministry by Grace/New Beginnings Lutheran Church, Regina, $6,000 and Mission Opportunity Funds to be used for new mission work during the triennium, $4,500.
