Special tea parties were once popular social events where ladies caught up on the latest news and showed off their finery as well as culinary and decorating skills. LWMLC members at Trinity LWMLC, Abbotsford, B.C., decided to revive the custom.
On May 28, 2011 the tables were beautifully decorated with fine china loaned by the ladies. Table favours were in spring colors (pink, mauve, yellow, and green), matching the serviettes. The table centrepieces were lovely teapots which held potted miniature roses. Most of the 50 ladies who attended wore their favourite spring bonnets, ranging from colourful and beautiful, to outrageously creative. Prizes were awarded, and it was a great time to laugh and relax together.
The program included a get-to-know-you “bingo” game, a tea quiz, opening and closing devotions, and a skit. Very tasty scones, as well as delicious cakes, tarts, and squares, were served with a variety of teas. Reporter Mary Vaage said, “This was a fellowship event and visitors and members alike thought it was a wonderful afternoon.”
