Mary…sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to Him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her (Luke 10:39-42).
In my faith walk one of my biggest challenges is to let God be God. When I am overwhelmed with the many tasks of my day-to-day life my temptation is to neglect taking time for God. I like to take control. After all I know what I’m doing; I can get a lot more done without taking the time to consult with anyone else, including God.
Unfortunately that approach hasn’t always (ever?) worked for me. I have learned that taking time for God keeps me focused and better able to complete the tasks HE has prepared for me. God only gives us the tasks He knows we can complete in the amount of time we are given. God has calculated in plenty of time for each of us to spend time in His Word and in prayer. The times in my life when I have been most immersed in the Word of God have been the times when I felt the most balanced.
Many of us spend a significant amount of time working for LWMLC. Sometimes we become overwhelmed by the tasks assigned to us and by the amount of time it takes. Many are reluctant to serve because they feel they are not prepared to make the time commitment.
The mission of LWMLC is not to keep us all busy. We are women of God. Our mission is to Equip, Motivate, and Encourage women to Grow in God’s Word, Serve God’s people and Share God’s Son. Has our “work” in LWMLC become a little unbalanced? Have we become so busy meeting and planning that we sometimes spend less time than we should in God’s Word?
This summer take some time to talk to and listen to God. As you begin planning your fall LWMLC program, make sure you have included God. He has promised us He will be with us in everything we do for Him. If God and His Word are our first priority He will bless the work of LWLMC. We will be well equipped to encourage others in their faith and serve others with our time and treasures.
