Saturday October 19 may have been cloudy and cool, but the atmosphere inside St. James Lutheran Church in Winnipeg was warm and friendly! Forty-three ladies and one pastor gathered under theme, “A Christian Life; Christian Service.”
We started our time together by singing songs of thanksgiving. God showed His handiwork when Zone President Annette Borchardt’s opening comments were connected to the opening devotion, “The value of friends: A force and blessing of God“ presented by the ladies of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Isn’t God creative to make these connections without our own preparation? A representative from Knowles Centre in Winnipeg shared an informative presentation of the organization’s programs to help children through difficult periods of their lives.
The ingathering of emergency kits for the Health Sciences Centre was successful and the hospital will have 192 more kits for patients who do not remember – or do not have time – to bring along soap, deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, etc. Our free will offering will be sent to the Central District Mission Appeal.
Before breaking for lunch and fellowship, many ladies visited the LWMLC Resource Centre to purchase items and gifts.
The host congregation’s Pastor James Schnaar led a Bible study, “Why Give?” We started as one group and then divided into six groups. Each group reported back to the larger assembly the highlights of their small group discussions.
The ladies of Beautiful Savior led our closing devotion. What a wonderful day to spend together learning more about Christian service, studying God’s word and enjoying fellowship with friends old and new!
