A miserable, rainy day in September did not deter 67 women from gathering at St. Luke Lutheran church in Surrey, B.C., for their Fraser Valley zone fall renewal. Theme for the day was “Worship God alone, Live His
Word, Sing His song.” The Bible verse for the day was Psalm 19:14: “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
President Brenda Weiss of St Luke opened the day with prayer and welcomed all. A short business meeting followed. Reports from the ABC district convention were given; the zone was represented by Shirley Wisdahl and young women’s’ representative was Divya Daniel.
The day’s Bible study, introduced by Valerie Lowther, was based on a study “I will sing praises to my God as long as I live” (Psalm 146:28) written by Judy Grande for Tapestry, Winter 2009. Well-known Lutheran Church–Canada musicians Jennifer Jade Kerr and Kelti Malone led the Bible study and shared their beautiful, inspiring music.
The 20th anniversary of LWML–Canada was honoured with a beautiful cake for dessert.
Reverend Edivar Govaski brought a message, based on the day’s theme, in the afternoon worship service. He encouraged us to “replenish, revive and feed our souls” as we discover God’s creation, encounter the power and follow the path of God’s word and, most of all, find forgiveness in God’s Word. Jennifer and Kelti provided the music during the service. The LWML–Canada theme song, “Called to Serve,” has never sounded so beautiful. We were blessed to have them share the day with us.
