Our congregation celebrated LWMLC Sunday, two anniversaries (LWMLC – 20 years, Trinity LWMLC – 50 years) and Thanksgiving on October 20, 2013.
The special LWMLC service was led by Regina street minister and police chaplin, Rev. D.J. Kim, who also honoured us by singing the Lord’s Prayer and sharing some of his recent mission field experiences. A special offering was given for his ministry. After worship members of the congregation viewed a display of our LWMLC projects, photos and records from our archives, and enjoyed a potluck fellowship with a special anniversary cake.
Moosomin LWML had their first meeting on November 28, 1962. Pastor Norman Aman (now sainted), pastor of the Moosomin, Broadview and Oakshella parish read the constitution of the LWML, which was adopted by seven ladies. Election of officers was held as follows: President: Leila Nabholz (mother of our present national president, Iris Barta); Vice-President: Dorothy Mielitz; Secretary: Margaret Haverstock; Treasurer: Lois Edel; Christian Growth: Margaret Dyke. Meetings were held in the homes of members and the hostess would supply lunch. There was a Sick and Visiting committee consisting of two ladies for a three-month period.
Locally, in the past, we were able to carry out a more extensive program but, because of health-related issues, with work and family responsibilities, our activities have diminished. By the grace of God we do what we are able. We totally depend on the Holy Spirit to fulfil in us the desire and the will to carry out God’s purpose for us here in Moosomin and beyond. To God be the glory, now and in the future.
