Take a cookie walk

LEDUC, Alta. – In March, the ladies of St.Peter’s Lutheran Church hosted a cookie walk to help raise funds to buy materials needed to make quilts, The beautiful quilts are sent to Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) and to local charities. Last year, the quilting group made over eighty quilts. We raised over $300 during our Cookie Walk, and plan to have another in the future. (Details on holding a Cookie Walk are published in LWML–Canada’s magazine, Tapestry.)

Sparked by the Word, Sent to the World

WETASKIWIN, Alta. – Our zone rally was held September 17 at Zion Lutheran Church. Thirty-nine women grew in faith under the theme “Sparked by the Word and Sent to the World,” based on Jeremiah 1:5a – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart….”

Coffee and goodies began the day. During the business portion we heard from our delegates to the ABC LWMLC convention in Abbotsford, B.C. They reported a wonderful experience. We also heard from our two young women, Meaghan and Michelle, who also attended the convention. They described how the experience has opened their eyes to everything LWMLC does.

Pastor Howard Russ led the rally participants in Bible study in preparation for our guest speakers from the Central Alberta Pregnancy Centre in Red Deer, Alta. The centre provides compassionate support and education for individuals and families impacted by unexpected pregnancy and related issues. All of their programs and services are free, confidential, and are offered in a safe and non-judgmental environment regardless of age, gender, race, or religion. The ladies from the Central Pregnancy Centre explained how they help women who are pregnant and unsure of the next step. The Centre gives the women three options they provide counselling and classes for any option the women choose. Also, there are classes and counselling for the families of the women and the boyfriends/husbands of the women. We took a love offering for the Alberta Pregnancy Centre.

Parkland Zone members look forward to their Spring Retreat, April 28-30, 2017 at the Alberta 4-H Centre, where the theme is Sweet Life Café.

On Sunday, November 24, 2013, the Logan Ladies Guild celebrated LWMLC Sunday. They also celebrated the 65th anniversary of a ladies group at First Lutheran Church, Logan. During the worship service the ladies sang “Lutheran Women One and All” and recited the League Pledge. President Darlene Nater gave a brief overview of the work the ladies do in our local congregation, community, as well as nationally and internationally. Everyone was invited downstairs for apple cider, coffee and cookies served by a few men who even helped to wash dishes! A display was set up illustrating some of our projects.
